More corrosion-resistant and harder than steel, this metal ensures performance and safety for various industrial sectors

Beryllium copper is a metal alloy that, as the name implies, is created by combining two elements: copper and beryllium. Because it is highly corrosion-resistant and five times harder than steel, this material is mainly used for making industrial tools. However, it can also be used in other projects and even facilitate some everyday activities.

There are also other ingredients, such as iron, cobalt and nickel, in the composition of beryllium copper, which are added to the formula to ensure a metal that is light, strong, non-sparking and with moderate heat and electrical conductivity, as well as excellent durability.

Where is beryllium copper used?

Besides being more resistant than steel, beryllium copper has a strength of up to 1,400 MPa (200,000 psi) and good thermal conductivity (62 Btu / ft-deg.F-H). This makes it used in various industrial segments, whether for making tools or for ensuring safety during the process.

One of its main uses is for producing computer parts, connectors and automobiles, as well as in the manufacture of speakers, because it has good acoustic properties.

Beryllium copper is also used in mooring or containment equipment used for fall arrest safety techniques, as one of the best materials to ensure compliance with the regulatory standard, which lists safety protocols for all activities performed more than two meters above the ground.

Other uses:

  • Computer equipment;
  • Gyroscopes, projectile guides and rockets;
  • Neutron moderator in nuclear reactors;
  • X-rays (beryllium copper sheets filter out visible radiation);
  • Clock springs;Musical equipment;
  • Tramontina Tools.

Benefits of beryllium copper

Beryllium copper alloy is non-sparking, corrosion-resistant and non-ferromagnetic, so it can be used in areas with a risk of explosion and fire. These features make tools made of this material safer for this kind of use, when compared to steel, for example.

Tramontina PRO has a full line of more than 250 hand tools and maintenance accessories, including wrenches, sockets, pliers, screwdrivers, hammers, sledgehammers and many other items, as well as IEC 60900-compliant insulated tools. They are all developed to serve a variety of industrial sectors, ensuring the quality that only PRO can offer.

For those working with heat or in areas with a risk of explosion, theCuBe line, made of beryllium copper, is ideal, because the parts are non-sparking when used and do not run the risk of being attracted by magnets and other magnetic fields.

In addition, the metal alloy used in these products has mechanical strength superior to other alloys available in the market, making the work easier and lasting much longer. PROs use it!
